4/21/11 Society for Research in Child Development 2011- Montreal was a great success. Congratulations to all our presenters: Andy Mickunas, Ben Chihak, Christine Ziemer, Megan Mathews, Tina Violante and Lauren Herzog!

9/10/10 Publication accepted to Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance on how child and adult cyclists intercept moving gaps in a virtual environment (in Press- to be released this fall). Big thanks to Ben Chihak for all his hard work on this one.

9/4/10 Goodbye to our summer interns from Kalamazoo College, Lauren Herzog and Tina Violante. Lauren's exceptional work on children's direction-following skills has be submitted in poster format to SRCD 2011 along with Tina's work on children's spatial memory. Good luck writing those honor's theses.

8/1/10 Goodbye to Andy Mickunas and Kelsey Winnike. Both have graduated from UI. Kelsey begins her Masters in Social Work this fall at UI.

About us

Research conducted in the Spatially Organized Thinking Lab focuses on the development of spatial memory and spatial communication. We are especially interested in how spatial memory and communication change over the short term scale of learning and the longer term scale of development. Our studies show that spatial memory and communication emerge in the moment and over time out of the interaction of the cognitive system and the surrounding environment. This focus on change underscores the dynamic nature of remembering and communicating about location in both children and adults.
