Program Planning Information

Course Sequence for the B.A. Program. The first year of academic work for the typical student in this program involves primarily General Education courses. Time permitting; work in psychology may be started in the first year, ordinarily with 31:001 Elementary Psychology. 100-level psychology courses have a prerequisite of Evaluating Psychological Research / Research Methods as well as specified lower level psychology course work. Students entering the B.A. program can begin course work in their second area of concentration at any time, in accordance with the guidelines of their selected department. Students must earn a C- or better in all prerequisite courses (except Elementary Psychology and Statistics) prior to enrolling in more advanced courses.

Enriching the B.A. Program. Students in the B.A. program who plan graduate study in psychology or a related discipline should consider enriching their preparation--for example, by taking 7P:143 (22S:102) for their statistics requirement instead of 7P:025 (22S:025). It may also be wise to elect a good college mathematics course, e.g., 22M:010, and to choose challenging General Education natural science courses in chemistry, biology, or physics. The student should consult carefully with their faculty adviser in planning such an enriched B.A. program.
